Today I’m taking part in the Passing Notes with Sykosa event! It’s kind of a cool thing where the main character from Justin Ordonez’s book Sykosa passes a note to my character ,Sam, from Forbidden Mind, and then I post their response. It’s a fun way to get to know other authors and characters AND there’s a chance for you to win $50, a paperback of Sykosa or one of 11 ebooks! The entry form is at the end of this post.
Sykosa has already written her note to Sam. Check out what she had to say: Letter to Sam from Sykosa.
Now, here’s Sam’s note back!
***
Sykosa,
First off, love your name! It’s so unique, unlike Sam which is tres boring! I don’t even get a last name, so it sucks. Second, I really try not to read my friends’ minds. It’s hard sometimes, especially if you get really excited and ‘loud’ in your thoughts, but I do try.
And it’s hard to for me to read someone’s mind from a distance, so you’re safe! Lol Also I thought goosebumps meant someone was walking over your grave? But I could be wrong. I don’t think they mean someone’s reading your mind though, because I get them and no one else at my school can read minds.
It does sound like we have a lot in common. I’m so sorry about what your parochial school has done to you and your friends in covering things up with what happened. It sounds awful. I wish I could help, but I’ve kind of got my hands full here. See, something bad’s happening here too. I haven’t put all the pieces together yet, but I’m scared. My bff’s Luke and Lucy (twins… and O.M.G. Luke is so hot! You should meet him. I just wish he wasn’t like such a brother to me, because thinking about him like that is kind of—ew!) Anyways, they’re trying to help me figure out what’s going on before it’s too late.
So is Drake. Thing is, Drake and I have never met in person before. Crazy right? We practically live in each other’s heads though. And I won’t deny having certain—thoughts—about him. Shhh!! There, now you know one of my secrets too. lol
Anyways, I can’t wait to finally meet him in person. It’s really hard falling for a guy and never being able to touch him or sit with him or hold his hand or… you know, other stuff!
Does that sound totally crazy? Probably.
But it sounds like we’re in similar situations. It’s kind of ironic. You’re being hurt by the Roman Catholic Church and I’m being hurt by a paranormal organization with major secrets. Though I’m not religious and neither is Drake, the man who is like a father to him is actually Father Patrick, a Catholic Priest. We’re hoping he can help us. Guess there’s potential for corruption anytime you have humans involved in something, whether they have para-powers or not. But know that there are some good people in the church too. There’s potential for great kindness as well. Don’t give up!
Well, I hope it all works out for you. Thanks so much for contacting me and let’s try to stay in touch. Once I turn 18 I’m supposed to be free of this place, and that big day is just around the corner. I haven’t heard from Sarah Lawrence yet, but I’ll let you know. Maybe we can hang out sometime? If I’m ever in Washington on assignment I’ll try to look you up.
Talk soon,
Sam <insert unknown last name here>

Sam,
Wow, this Drake guy sounds super intriguing!! ^_^ Don’t worry, I understand that allure, it’s like unrequited love in a way, even tho you both want it, niether of you can get it. MIND GAMES, lol. You’d be into that super-intense relationship cause of ur powers, so it’s important you find someone who’s ur equal in that regard. (Tho, if you bring ur hot friend Luke around, I’m certain I’ve got a few friends who can keep him busy, LOL!! *baddddddddddd* I’m currently taken at the moment, happy with my Tom, so I’ll just take in the eye candy like you are.
Yeah, my parish got super-secretive about everything, but I know they’re good people there. The head of our school is Mother Superior, she is also lead nun at the abbey. I’ve known her my entire life and she’s given me a lot of good advice and guidance, but she’s wayyyy strict, like wayyyyyyy strict. I’m such a good student and such a brown noser and she’s even tough on me! Beside that, I wish they hadn’t covered it up, but it’s not really their fault that it happened. I’ve got this friend named Niko, who I’d swear you’d love, so long as u never make enemies with her EVER. Anyhow, there were some fights and business like that.
You should travel your butt up to Sarah Lawrence and get your brain in the admissions office, lol! Make it happen girl!

Drake is… interesting. I think he’s pretty hot, though I only saw him once, really briefly, when he was passed out and had a head injury.
He’s super buff. Actually, his powers are really amazing. He can control minds AND he’s super strong. Kinda scary but also hot, right?
Luke, ha! He’s got all the women after him. It’s funny because there’s one girl at our school, Mary, whose para-power is to seduce men. I’m sure your nuns would LOVE her. Anyways, Luke is the only heterosexual boy her powers don’t work on. Go figure!
I’m not sure I could ever go to such a strict school. Rent-A-Kid has major problems, but we do have a lot of freedom in some ways. We have our own suites or dorms. (Luke and Lucy share a suite by choice, but have their own rooms.) And there’s the Hub, which is in the center of school, with shops and cafes and a movie theater. It’s like a mini-town. I have an awesome art studio for my paintings.
Well… I had one. But that’s a whole other story. The point is, your school sounds intense. Of course, we have armed guards at our gate and I have a chip in my arm that tracks me wherever I am. Guess we all have problems, eh?
I can’t go to Sarah Lawrence until I turn 18. They won’t let me leave, but Headmaster Higgins is supposed to hear something soon. *crossing fingers*
Glad you’re happy with Tom! He sounds cool. 🙂 You’re so lucky you guys get to… do stuff! lol
That’s funny that you don’t think you could go to the Academy (my school), as I was thinking that I don’t think it’s possible I could attend yours! Yours sounds wayyyy more hardcore than mine, but what do I know, it did seem like you guys get some free time to do as you please, where I’ve basically got every second of my day meticulously planned out, “to ensure education efficiency and maximum knowledge retention.” (That was me trying to sound like the Vice Principal, a major tightwad). We do not have a movie theater in our school…. That makes me very jealous. We have a lot of very old, very pretty, EXCEEDINGLY COLD buildings, tho. At the same time, the idea of never being able to leave the school!?! Even if it’s huge, that sounds tough….

Yeah, I guess we all have problems! lol Before things started getting bad, it was a pretty nice place to live though. We go on assignments a lot, so that lets me travel all over the world. Of course, I do end up meeting some pretty big creeps! You do NOT want to know what goes on in some people’s minds.
On the other hand, because I’m a mind reader, they trained me in dozens of languages. (Because it doesn’t matter if you can read minds, if you don’t understand the language they’re speaking in!) So that’s been fun. I even made up a whole language and taught Luke and Lucy so we could have some ‘private’ conversations. It is hard to get any privacy here.
But I love my art teacher, Mr. K. He’s weird and a bit emo (and way too old to pull that off!) but he’s the best. I’ve learned so much from him and my art is really improving. I just did this one piece, it’s off the charts good! I know that sounds vain, but it’s true. But then, something happened to it…
Well, I don’t want to talk about that. But like I said, before things got bad, they were actually pretty good for the most part. Oh, and I make a lot of money! So there’s that.
I guess the rules of a Catholic school would be hard for me. Here, there’s a lot of freedom to be what you are. Two of my friends are gay, and no one judges them at all. We’re all used to being different, so we all pretty much accept each other. But, most of what I know about Catholics is from movies, so my perceptions could be way off!
I hope they let you wear sweaters and pants in those cold buildings! I would not want to have to wear a skirt everyday. Do you have to dress in uniform? Do you have to wear a skirt? Ugh!
Ciao!
~Sam
